If you’ve ever doubted yourself, walk deep into any forest. Notice how the trees still stand even though they are given no recognition. Walk along any stream. The water still flows, though no one stops to praise it. Watch the stars late at night; they shine without acknowledgment. Humans are just the same. We are made out of the same elements as these beautiful wonders. Always remember your beauty and self worth.

Tough Guise: Violence, Media & The Crisis in Masculinity

with Ed. M, Ph.D Jackson Katz

Same for mass shootings which are almost entirely done by white males.

If it was done by, literally, ANYONE ELSE of any other race or gender, I can’t even IMAGINE the shit that would be said by people.

I read somewhere, someone had this theory that the reason shootings are mainly committed by white males is because when women or poc feel alienated, depressed, etc, we are trained to keep it to ourselves, whereas white men are raised with a sense of entitlement that allows them to make their own problems everyone’s problem.

I wonder if it is true for shooting or for road rage or both or neither.

the bolded!

This is a really good documentary.

BEST DOCUMENTARY I’VE EVER SEEN, actually.

unless you’re planning on starting and completing a socialist revolution by november 6th there is absolutely no reason to abstain from voting. it is not a blood pact. you are not beholden to democrats when you vote for them over abstaining. there IS a lesser of two evils and it’s not inaction. every republican voted in kavanaugh and only one democrat did. statistically we are literally safer with democrats in office.

and no, i’m not planning on relinquishing communist ideals in deference to dems. i just don’t think as black and white as “anything short of a communist revolution is useless.” roe v wade is in jeopardy and women WILL die if it gets overturned. leftists sitting on their asses are about as useful as the thoughts and prayers of school shootings

Short-term harm reduction through voting is 100% compatible with organizing and community action, and is absolutely vital if you want to save the lives of marginalized people.

I suspect that “it was a different time” is just a short way to say “the only reason I’m not doing it right now is that it isn’t popular anymore.”

You never hear “People just threw urine and feces out the window, it was expected.” Nobody ever says, “The streets were full of hogs, that’s how things were.”

But slavery? Beating people up for not being the “right” kind of Christian? Victims being sent away as the rapist roamed freely? That’s when you hear “You have to understand, it was a different time then.”

“Yes, being in a female dominated field, I do know what it means to be marginalized. “

oh

my

god

omg

oh my fucking god

The really ugly part is they’ve actually done multiple sociological studies on this, and guess what the result is? Men in female-dominated fields aren’t marginalized at all; they get special treatment and are fast-tracked to the top, getting more credit for their work, faster promotions, and greater pay and benefits than their female colleagues.

Here’s one study. Here’s another. And another.

^phenomenon known as the glass escalator

have you ever been around male nurses….mannnn

Men in female dominated fields are entitled as hell. Don’t get it twisted

teaching is a female-dominated field but most principals are male

librarianship is a female-dominated field but most directors are male

Cooking is female dominated but most chefs are males

a large percent of hair stylists are women,  but most major hair care brands are owned by men

Kavanaugh will end up with 50 votes. The lowest total since the US expanded to 100 senators.

The old standard of 60 votes was ended by Mitch McConnell to pass Neil Gorsuch.

Don’t forget these Republicans changed all the rules for their advantage.
